We have a unique, three-pronged approach we use to place young people into alternative career pathways from apprenticeships to various job opportunities with vocational courses and clear progression paths. We work closely with schools, our corporate partners, trusted training providers and parents to educate and inform people about the different career pathways that are open to them. We inspire, develop and empower young people to give them all the tools they need so they can have the best start to their working life.


Our team of school engagement officers work with schools to deliver apprenticeship specific advice and guidance to students.

The purpose of the SSP Food Travel Experts Social Mobility project is to place 1,000 young people into hospitality

SSP Food Travel Experts UK is working alongside AIM Group Foundation, established NEET* Organisations, schools, teachers and parents to create an equal career opportunity for those interested in working in the hospitality industry.

AIM Group Foundation and SSP Food Travel Experts UK are working together throughout 2019 to place 1,000 people between the ages of 19 -25 into hospitality roles across the country where they can take two customer service qualifications fully funded by SSP Food Travel Experts while they work, enabling them to start their customer service and hospitality career. The aim of the project is to positively engage with young people, including those who face barriers to progression, and to support social mobility through equal employment opportunities with SSP UK.

Pathway 1 | NEET Organisations:
Those who benefit from the support of NEET organisations will be placed on a two-week Level 2 pre-employability course in Customer Service. On the last day of the course they will be invited to apply for a job role with SSP Food Travel Experts and gain mock interview training. Should the applicant be hired they will have the opportunity to gain another qualification in customer service with a hospitality focus, all while earning money through working at SSP UK.

Pathway 2 | School and College Leavers:
School engagement teams will be going to schools and colleges across the UK to talk about the different employment routes available for over 16’s. There will be an opportunity to register details so that AIM Foundation can send application forms over to the student who can then apply to work at their local SSP UK Site. Should the applicant be hired they will have the opportunity to gain another qualification in customer service with a hospitality focus, all while earning money.

Endless Progression Opportunities:
Everyone who is employed by SSP will have endless opportunities to learn and progress your skills with SSP who are dedicated to investing in their employees futures. SSP Team Members can be promoted into Team Leader and Management positions as well as be given opportunities to progress onto a hospitality apprenticeship with AIM Foundation and Lifetime Training, an established training provider.

More BAME and female Applicants applied for to work for Prudential than ever before.

3 BAME AIM Group Foundation applicants were placed into apprenticeships with Prudential.

AIM Group Foundation worked closely with teachers and schools to reach the Prudential demographic for this project.

In 2018, Prudential contacted AIM Group Foundation because they felt that they were only engaging with a particular demographic for their apprenticeships. Although Prudential do not struggle with the number of applications that they receive, they felt that these applications did not represent the population of which they were recruiting within.

AIM Group Foundation partnered with Prudential, a finance company, to run a Diversity and Inclusion Campaign, whilst still promoting equal opportunities, for their Reading office, specifically focusing attention on BAME* and female students.

During 2018, AIM Group Foundation worked closely with teachers and career advisors from schools across the Reading area to undertake this project. Due to our extensive relationships with schools in the region, they were happy to assist us when we told them of the project at hand. We held workshops in schools across Reading, to allow us to engage with the demographic of students that the Prudential have struggled with. Across these workshops, it became apparent that many of these students had never heard of the brand before. Once we explained the company, their culture, and the various opportunities available to them, the students were interested in finding out more and applying. What has become apparent throughout these workshops, is that lack of knowledge can be a barrier to entry when it comes to attracting the right applicants from a variety of demographics. Prudential found that the majority of their candidates were Caucasian males, who had prior knowledge of the brand before applying. AIM Group Foundation’s workshops increased brand awareness across a demographic of students that the Prudential had been unable to engage with previously.

Prudential received the highest number of applications from BAME candidates than ever before, highlighting the importance of face to face interaction with students. Three AIM Group Foundation candidates also secured an apprenticeship with Prudential at their Reading Site.

Career events are a really important tool for attracting the right hospitality apprenticeship candidates. AIM Group Foundation and Lifetime Training work together to market these roles out to young people at career events across the UK who may be interested in a hospitality career.

Lifetime Training is an established hospitality training provider which specialises in hospitality apprenticeships. Their clients include Green King, Michelin Butlers, Hilton Hotels and more. Throughout the 2018/2019 academic year, AIM Group Foundation and Lifetime Training have been working together to make young people aware of all the various apprenticeships on offer at Lifetime Training with a particular emphasis on attending prestigious career events, such as the London Skills Show and World Skills Show where thousands of potential applicants pass through every year. Lifetime Training also works closely with our School Engagement team to make them aware of the various job roles available with their clients, so that they can encourage students, particularly students from culinary colleges, to have a look at all of the opportunities that are open to them.

Due to the success of the skills shows and school engagement presentations and workshops, in the 2019/2020 academic year Lifetime Training and AIM Group Foundation are going to be launching an extensive collaborative marketing project to help reform the current view of the culinary industry to schools parents and students and to encourage them to look for a hospitality career which will be supported by Lifetime Training.

The programme includes holding 100 extensive workshops to engage 2,500 students across the UK, further engaging young people through digital platforms, creating packs for parents with key information and ‘myth busting’ facts, and educating teachers and schools on the landscape of the culinary world today to encourage them to have our school engagement team come into schools and educate students about different options available in the hospitality industry.

What Is Processing And Controlling?

(Making a Disclosure in the Public Interest)


  1. AIM Group Foundation is committed to the highest standards of openness, probity and accountability.

    An important aspect of accountability and transparency is a mechanism to enable staff and other members of the Charity to voice concerns in a responsible and effective manner. It is a fundamental term of every contract of employment that an employee will faithfully serve his or her employer and not disclose confidential information about the employer’s affairs. Nevertheless, where an individual discovers information which they believe shows serious malpractice or wrongdoing within the organisation then this information should be disclosed internally without fear of reprisal, and there should be arrangements to enable this to be done independently of line management (although in relatively minor instances the line manager would be the appropriate person to be told).

  1. The Public Interest Disclosure Act gives legal protection to employees against being dismissed or penalised by their employers as a result of publicly disclosing certain serious concerns. The Charity has endorsed the provisions set out below to ensure that no members of staff should feel at a disadvantage in raising legitimate concerns.
  1. It should be emphasised that this policy is intended to assist individuals who believe they have discovered malpractice or impropriety. It is not designed to question financial or business decisions taken by the Charity nor should it be used to reconsider any matters, which have already been addressed under harassment, complaint, and disciplinary or other procedures.

Scope of Policy

  1. This policy is designed to enable employees of the Charity to raise concerns internally and at a high level and to disclose information, which the individual believes shows malpractice or impropriety. This policy is intended to cover concerns, which are in the public interest and may at least initially be investigated separately but might then lead to the invocation of other procedures e.g. disciplinary. These concerns could include:

· Financial malpractice or impropriety or fraud

· Failure to comply with a legal obligation or Statutes

· Dangers to Health & Safety or the environment

· Criminal activity

· Improper conduct or unethical behaviour

· Attempts to conceal any of these


  1. Protection – this policy is designed to offer protection to those employees of AIM Group Foundation who disclose such concerns provided the disclosure is made:

· In good faith

· In the reasonable belief of the individual making the disclosure that it tends to show malpractice or impropriety and if they make the disclosure to an appropriate person (see below). It is important to note that no protection from internal disciplinary procedures is offered to those who choose not to use the procedure. In an extreme case, malicious or wild allegations could give rise to legal action on the part of the persons complained about.


  1. Confidentiality – AIM Group Foundation will treat all such disclosures in a confidential and sensitive manner. The identity of the individual making the allegation may be kept confidential so long as it does not hinder or frustrate any investigation. However, the investigation process may reveal the source of the information and the individual making the disclosure may need to provide a statement as part of the evidence required.
  1. Anonymous Allegations – this policy encourages individuals to put their name to any disclosures they make. Concerns expressed anonymously are much less credible, but they may be considered at the discretion of the Charity. In exercising this discretion, the factors to be taken into account will include:

· The seriousness of the issues raised

· The credibility of the concern

· The likelihood of confirming the allegation from attributable sources

  1. Untrue Allegations – If an individual makes an allegation in good faith, which is not confirmed by subsequent investigation, no action will be taken against that individual. In making a disclosure the individual should exercise due care to ensure the accuracy of the information. If, however, an individual makes malicious or vexatious allegations, and particularly if he or she persists with making them, disciplinary action may be taken against that individual.

Procedures for Making a Disclosure

  1. On receipt of a complaint of malpractice, the member of staff who receives and takes note of the complaint, must pass this information as soon as is reasonably possible, to the appropriate designated investigating officer as follows:

· The appropriate Director will investigate complaints of malpractice unless the complaint is against the Director or is in any way related to the actions of the Director. In such cases, the complaint should be passed to the Chief Executive / Business Owner / Trustees for referral.

· In the case of a complaint, which is any way connected with but not against the Director, the Chief Executive / Business Owner / Trustees will nominate a Senior Manager or external party to act as the alternative investigating officer.

· Complaints against the Chief Executive / Business Owner / Trustees should be passed to the Chairman who will nominate an appropriate internal / external investigating officer.

· The complainant has the right to bypass the line management structure and take their complaint direct to the Chairman (or Business Owner). The Chairman (or Business Owner) has the right to refer the complaint back to management if he/she feels that the management without any conflict of interest can more appropriately investigate the complaint.

  1. Should none of the above routes be suitable or acceptable to the complainant, and then the complainant may approach one of the following individuals who have been designated and trained as independent points of contact under this procedure. They can advise the complainant on the implications of the legislation and the possible internal and external avenues of complaint open to them:

  1. If there is evidence of criminal activity then the investigating officer should inform the police. The Charity will ensure that any internal investigation does not hinder a formal police investigation.


  1. Due to the varied nature of these sorts of complaints, which may involve internal / external investigators and / or the police, it is not possible to lay down precise timescales for such investigations. The investigating officer should ensure that the investigations are undertaken as quickly as possible without affecting the quality and depth of those investigations.
  1. The investigating officer, should as soon as practically possible, send a written acknowledgement of the concern to the complainant and thereafter report back to them in writing the outcome of the investigation and on the action that is proposed. If the investigation is a prolonged one, the investigating officer should keep the complainant informed, in writing, as to the progress of the investigation and as to when it is likely to be concluded.
  1. All responses to the complainant should be in writing and sent to their home address marked “confidential”.

Investigating Procedure

  1. The investigating officer should follow these steps:

· Full details and clarifications of the complaint should be obtained.

· The investigating officer should inform the member of staff against whom the complaint is made as soon as is practically possible. The member of staff will be informed of their right to be accompanied by a trade union or work colleague at any future interview or hearing held under the provision of these procedures. At the discretion of the investigating officer and dependant on the circumstances of the complaint an alternative representative may be allowed e.g. the individual’s legal representative.

· The investigating officer should consider the involvement of the Charity auditors and the Police at this stage and should consult with the Chairman / Chief Executive / Business Owner / Trustees if appropriate

· The allegations should be fully investigated by the investigating officer with the assistance where appropriate, of other individuals / bodies.

· The investigating officer will make a judgement concerning the complaint and validity of the complaint. This judgement will be detailed in a written report containing the findings of the investigations and reasons for the judgement. The report will be passed to the Chief Executive, Chairman, Business Owner or Trustees as appropriate.

· The Chief Executive / Chairman / Business Owner / Trustees will decide what action to take. If the complaint is shown to be justified, then they will invoke the disciplinary or other appropriate Charity procedures.

· The complainant should be kept informed of the progress of the investigations and, if appropriate, of the final outcome.

· If appropriate, a copy of the outcomes will be used to enable a review of Charity procedures.

  1. If the complainant is not satisfied that their concern is being properly dealt with by the investigating officer, they have the right to raise it in confidence with the Chief Executive / Business Owner / Chairman / Trustees or one of the designated persons described above.
  1. If the investigation finds the allegations unsubstantiated and all internal procedures have been exhausted, but the complainant is not satisfied with the outcome of the investigation, AIM Group Foundation recognises the lawful rights of employees and ex-employees to make disclosures to prescribed persons or body (e.g. the Health and Safety Executive).
